Water Drainage Options

There is a variety of options when it comes to rainwater drainage systems. Whether you have a low-slope, flat, or pitched roof, it is important to ensure that water is draining out and away from your building. K-style gutters are the most common rain gutter system you will see on residential homes. Most modern gutters are seamless, metal gutters. Seamless gutters are made onsite, to the building’s measurements, ensuring that there are no joints that trap debris, or are prone to leaks and failure. 

Scuppers are openings that allow for free water flow. These outlets will not clog easily, and facilitate the proper diversion of large amounts of rain. However, it’s important to ensure that where the water is directed to is reinforced and prepared to receive the influx of water. A large box gutter, or drainpipe is an ideal solution.

Rooftop drains are great for flat roofs. When installed properly, a drain will collect and divert water reliably. There are multiple parts to these drains – the strainer which prevents large debris from clogging up the pipe, the depression which directs water to the drain, and the interior piping system which diverts water from the building to a safe distance away.

Box gutters are similar to the gutters you see on most houses, but have a larger capacity for rain water. Also available are large K-gutters, which work for some commercial building applications. These gutters are securely fastened to the roof with strong metal brackets that prevent the gutter from pulling away from the roof. In addition, a drip edge, and snow and ice shield, are used to ensure that water will be prevented from backing up and causing damage to the roof decking.
